The Kansas City Chiefs used to be known as a team that choked anytime they got to the playoffs. That all changed when Patrick Mahomes took over as the starter in 2018.

Since Mahomes has been the starting quarterback for the Chiefs, they haven't known what life without an AFC Championship appearance has been like. He's gone 4-2 in those AFC title games and is heading to the fourth Super Bowl of his young career (seriously, the guy is still only 28 years old).

What is Patrick Mahomes' Super Bowl record?

Mahomes is 2-1 in the first three Super Bowls he's played in. He has a chance to either go 3-1 or drop to 2-2 in the big game.

Super Bowl LIV

In the 2019 season (Mahomes' second as a starter), the Chiefs landed the two-seed in the AFC playoffs thanks to the Patriots stumbling in the final week of the season. Despite falling behind 24-0 to the Texans in the AFC Divisional Round, the Chiefs ended up blasting them 51-31 to advance to their second straight AFC title game.

Against the Titans, the Chiefs fell behind 17-7 only to lead the game 21-17 at the half due to a monster run from Mahomes. The Chiefs led by as much as 35-17 at one point and despite the Titans closing the gap, KC closed it out to advance to their first Super Bowl in 50 years.

In Super Bowl LIV against the 49ers, Mahomes was actually hurting the Chiefs for much of the game. He had thrown two bad interceptions and the Niners led 20-10 with under 12 minutes to go in the game. It sure felt like the game was over and the Chiefs missed their chance to win their first Super Bowl in five decades.

Fortunately, Mahomes showed up to the party at the perfect time. The Chiefs scored touchdowns on their next two drives to make it a 24-20 Chiefs lead. Jimmy Garoppolo overshot Emmanuel Sanders in what would have likely been a game-sealing touchdown and then he was sacked on the fourth down attempt.

Damien Williams then broke off a huge run and the rest is history. Kansas City won their first Super Bowl in 50 years by a score of 31-20 despite trailing by 10 with a little under seven minutes to go. Mahomes was crowned Super Bowl MVP and all was right in the world.

Super Bowl LV

This is the Super Bowl that Chiefs fans would like to forget about.

After cruising to a 14-2 record during the regular season, the Chiefs took care of business against the Browns in the divisional round (despite Mahomes missing the end of the game) and then blew out the Bills in the AFC Championship Game. It felt like they'd easily be able to repeat as champs but unfortunately for them, their offensive line was banged up beyond repair.

This allowed for the Buccaneers defense to pin their ears back and crush Mahomes. He was sacked three times and hit 10 times in total and that was only as low as it was due to Mahomes' scrambling ability. Otherwise, he'd have easily been sacked and hit way more.

Mahomes and the Chiefs lost this Super Bowl to Tom Brady and the Bucs by a score of 31-9. It's a game we'd all love to forget.

Super Bowl LVII

The Chiefs missed Super Bowl LVI due to the Bengals sneaking into Arrowhead and shocking the world by beating them in overtime. The next year, however, the Chiefs got their revenge on Cincinnati and made it back to the Super Bowl.

It was the Chiefs vs. the Eagles, Andy Reid's former team and also where Travis Kelce's brother Jason played. The stories were plentiful for this one and despite the game looking doomed by halftime, the Chiefs came back and found a way to win.

Mahomes went down with what looked to be a nasty injury in the first half and you wouldn't be wrong if you thought Chiefs Kingdom thought their chances took a major hit. Mahomes came back for the second half though (shoutout to Rihanna's Super Bowl halftime performance) and while his final stats don't look insane, the fact that he was playing on his injured ankle was admirable.

The Chiefs managed to hold the ball for nearly the entire final six minutes of the game. Harrison Butker kicked the go-ahead field goal with eight seconds left and that was it. Mahomes was now a two-time Super Bowl champion and a two-time Super Bowl MVP.

Super Bowl LVIII

We don't know the result of Mahomes' fourth Super Bowl appearance just yet. Will he make it 2-0 against the 49ers in the big game? Stay tuned on February 11 to find out.
