Underrated WR option linked to Chiefs in latest trade chatter

We all know the Chiefs could use some help, and one insider has an idea.

It's been almost a full week since the Kansas City Chiefs watched their star wide receiver Rashee Rice go down with what seems to be a serious injury, and fans have been dying to know whether or not this team is going to make a move to try and bolster their depth at the position.

Nearly five weeks into the season, and there are already plenty of trade rumors garnering attention around the league, which could be good news for the Chiefs. Obviously, the big news this past week on that front was hearing about Las Vegas Raiders wideout Davante Adams requesting a trade.

But, a deal to the Chiefs? That seems unlikely.

ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler included a lot of good info in his latest column he wrote alongside Dan Graziano. We already know the Chiefs aren't going to be in on an Adams trade, but there are other candidates they could look at.

Fowler speculated over Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper as an attractive option for the Chiefs, but he also mentioned one other name.

"The Giants' Darius Slayton ($2.5 million base salary) also comes to mind," Fowler wrote.

Darius Slayton could be the perfect low-risk trade option for the Chiefs

The New York Giants' wide receiver has been around the league for six years now, and it seems as though he's always finding himself in the middle of trade rumors when the deadline nears. For some reason, the Giants have seemingly gone back and forth with whether or not to use him at times.

Yet, Slayton has accumulated at least 700 receiving yards in four of his five pro seasons. He has proven to be an ideal threat where Patrick Mahomes has not had much to work with in recent years -- as a deep threat.

Sure, rookie Xavier Worthy is emerging as one of those types and could continue to blossom into quite the weapon for this offense. But, to have a veteran come in who gives Mahomes another option down the field would be a bonus.

Travis Kelce is going to see more action, and he's still fully capable of contributing. We've even seen someone like Noah Gray involved here and there. But, this team still needs another wide receiver.

In Slayton's most recent game last week against the Cowboys, he averaged 18.7 yards per reception, and boasts a career average of 15.0 yards per reception on 230 catches, proving he should be in more conversations around the league.

But, he continues to fly under the radar, and that could lead to him being a fantastic value for Brett Veach as the team tries to navigate a post-Rashee Rice world for the time being. If the Chiefs were able to land someone like Slayton for, say, a sixth-round pick, that's a no-brainer and this organization should go get it done.
