Tom Brady knows a thing or two about every dimension of being the best player at the game's most important position.

At this point, it's such a foregone conclusion that Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the National Football League by a country mile. It's what happens when you're ony 28 years old and already mentioned in conversation as potentially the best in NFL history at the position.

With three Super Bowl titles in six seasons as a starting quarterback, Mahomes is on another planet when it comes to QB comparisons, which is why we don't really pay attention to positional rankings all too often. That said, certain people can speak into the mic and command our attention and that includes Tom Brady's decision to talk about greatness at quarterback.

Brady recently appeared as a guest on the Steven A Smith Show (yeah, we're not sure how he has his own show either) to talk about a number of subjects. Smith brought up Mahomes' name and asked about his greatness in conjunction with other eras of the sport.

Brady went on to note that Mahomes would have been even better in other eras and then detailed why he thought Mahomes is the best now. His answers aren't as straightforward as you might have guessed. In case the video above isn't working, here's what Brady had to say:

"In my opinion, he’s the best quarterback in the NFL. Why? I could talk about his physical skills, but when I look at him and see why he’s great, I see the way he’s endeared himself to his teammates. I see the joy they have when they’re out there s hplaying together. So I love, when I see his rapport with his teammates, with his coaches, how he communicates after the game.

"I’m listening to the press conferences as much as I’m watching him throw a tight spiral because that’s ultimately what that position is about. Yeah, it’s about your ability to be physically gifted and run and throw on the move and drop his arm angle and read coverages and throw the ball deep. But it’s also about how the message you’re creating every day to your fans, to your teammates, to your coaches, how you present yourself on the field, off the field, how you handle wins and losses—that, to me, is just as important in the development of a player."

Brady also went on, in a bit of a rambling monologue, to describe the challenges ahead for Mahomes. We can only infer that Brady is projecting a bit of his own experiences here—a valuable insight from someone who has legitimately gone down the same path as Mahomes.

"The challenge I see with him as he gets older, he’s not as young as he once was and can he relate to the young players? I believe that he will. He’s now had a degree of success. Does that continue to motivate him? That’s gonna be up to him.

"There’s gonna be a lot of things that now happen in his life—his children and as he grows—that are external from football. How does he deal with those? I believe he’s got a good foundation to deal with those."
