It didn’t take long, but Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes is once again the leader in the odds to win the MVP award this season.

After moving into a tie with Tua Tagovailoa after Week 6, Mahomes dominated the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 7, tossing four scores to lead the Chiefs to another win. Following that performance, he jumped to +275 to win MVP, which is well ahead of Tua Tagovailoa (+400) who is second in the odds.

At +275 odds, Mahomes has an implied probability of 26.67 percent to win the MVP this season.

With Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7, Mahomes and the Chiefs also have the inside track to the No. 1 seed in the AFC which would certainly further Mahomes’ case for the MVP.

So far this season, the star quarterback has 15 touchdown passes (leading the NFL), and he leads the league in completions and attempts, a great sign that he’ll be able to add to these numbers as the season goes on.

Latest odds to win NFL MVP

Mahomes has finished in the top three in the voting for the MVP award in three of the last five seasons, and he looks poised to do so again this season.

While there can be voter fatigue, it’s hard to see that when it comes to Mahomes considering how dominant he’s been. Aaron Rodgers was able to win back-to-back MVPs just a few seasons ago, and a big reason why was Green Bay’s regular season success.

If Mahomes and the Chiefs win the AFC and he continues to lead the NFL in passing touchdowns, it’s going to be hard to argue that someone else is more deserving. At +275 odds, Mahomes still is worth a bet, but he could see that number shrink dramatically with some more big games.

The key will be Week 9 when he takes on Tagovailoa in a head-to-head matchup in Germany. If Mahomes wins that game and outperforms the Dolphins quarterback, he’ll be the clear-cut No. 1 choice for the league’s MVP.

Time may be running out to bet on Mahomes to win the MVP award. His best odds available are currently at DraftKings Sportsbook (+275).
