Patrick Mahomes gets honest about the impact Taylor Swift is having on Chiefs Kingdom
Name a better duo than the Kansas City Chiefs and Taylor Swift. After Swift started dating tight end Travis Kelce last season, the pop star attended nearly every Chiefs game, including all four playoff games.
Well, it appears that Swift is doing more than just attending games and cheering her boyfriend and his team on. According to Patrick Mahomes, Swift has actually put together some plays and the quarterback said the Chiefs might end up using one.
"And she's really interested in football, and she asks a lot of great questions. Started drawing up plays. We might have to put one in."
That's the quote everyone will be drawn to -- for good reason. But it's not the most interesting thing Mahomes said about Swift.
Everyone knows how much brighter the spotlight got for the Chiefs after Swift started showing up to games, and that's something Mahomes argues goes a lot farther than some people might realize. Her impact on expanding Chiefs Kingdom is almost immeasurable, although Mahomes offers up some pretty awesome metrics to gauge its success.
"I think it's been cool to see the girls and the women that have really embraced watching football," Mahomes said of Swift. "I know being a girl dad, how cool it is for me to see like these little girls -- these daughters -- and how much they're loving to spend time with their dad, watching football. And then meeting Taylor, realizing how genuine and cool she is. I think that's been special to me because she's, like you said, the most famous person in the world, she could not be (genuine)."
The attention Swift brings to the Chiefs has polarized some fans, but for those paying attention it's having a deeply positive impact on not only the fandom but football as a whole. Mahomes doesn't have to gas up Swift -- no one does -- but the fact that he's so positive about her being so involved with the team after all this time speaks volumes.
As for the plays she's drawn up, we'll see if that actually happens but it could make the Chiefs dunking on the rest of the league even more awesome than it already is.
Will the Chiefs use one of the plays that Taylor Swift came up with?
It wouldn't be shocking at all if Andy Reid and company swiped one of Swift's plays and gave it a cool name. Reid and his coaching staff are always looking for unique plays with one of the famous plays they borrowed coming in Super Bowl LIV that was from the Rose Bowl game in 1948.
Now the question would be what kind of play would Swift come up with? Would it automatically involve Kelce catching the pass or would he be used to fake the other team out? Also, what would the play be called? Would it be something like "Swift Kick" or a play on her last name?
If Reid, Mahomes, and the rest of the Chiefs offense does indeed decide to use one of T-Swift's play calls, you better believe we'll know about it as soon as it happens. Truthfully, I'd encourage the Chiefs to wait until the final offensive play of the Super Bowl to use the play. Just my two cents.
