NFL Week 9 Byes: Every team that's off this week
By Matt Conner
Every week in the National Football League through the midsection of the regular season schedule get a chance to enjoy a week of rest and relaxation. While it might sound like a vacation, however, it's mostly a respite from having a player's injuries aggravated even further—a break of sorts known as the bye week.
The Kansas City Chiefs bye week doesn't come until Week 10 this season, which means the team will fly to Germany to face the Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt and then will have the next 15 days or so off until they have to play the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. There will be plenty of practice sessions before then, of course, so it's not as if Patrick Mahomes and company will have a half-month holiday.
The Broncos get the weekend off after taking out the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8.
As for this week, four teams are getting the week off around the NFL including the Chiefs' rivals, the Denver Broncos. Denver just won their "Super Bowl" with a home win over the visiting Chiefs that halted the team's losing streak to K.C. at 16 consecutive games. You can imagine the bye week feels much better for Broncos coaches and players with that monkey off their backs.
As for the other teams that have reached their bye week, the Broncos are joined by the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are 6-2 and have earned the chance to rest up while hoping one or more of their fellow AFC contenders stumble a bit while they sit on the sidelines.
In the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers and the Detroit Lions are both off until Week 10. The Lions are playing on Monday night, so this keeps them from facing a short week, while the Niners will have some time to recover from a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
