Coming up in the final spot is the 49ers and the Steelers. This one is a fun matchup between a team that is on the cusp of greatness and one that is a conference heavyweight. With an interesting cast of new characters and young players, this one should be one to keep an eye on for its potential highlights and expectations for the two teams.
The 49ers seem poised to get the most out of their current starter, Brock Purdy. After devastating injuries, the 49ers were unable to knock off the Philadelphia Eagles en route to the Super Bowl a season ago. Now, with Trey Lance out of the picture, the team is looking to nail down their offensive game plan. With a talented defense and tremendous playmakers on offense, the 49ers could be a dark horse contender. Their potential Super Bowl bid begins against a young, up-and-comer in Week 1.
In Pittsburgh, there is a real, palpable feeling of optimism. TJ Watt is back, Kenny Pickett has some experience, and George Pickens looks phenomenal. The question remains if they truly compete with the loaded AFC. Can their additions and talent level bring them up to the same level as the Bengals, Bills, Chiefs, Ravens, and Chargers? The answer to that question will be shown clearly in Week 1 against a talented San Francisco team.
The bottom line: The truth is, a lot of people are going to like the 49ers in this one, and reasonably so. They are well-coached and have talent all over the field. I, for one, think the Steelers might be flying under the radar a little bit. If they can find any kind of offensive consistency, they will be tough to beat. I am looking for the Steelers to shock the 49ers with a late touchdown.
