As the Kansas City Chiefs continue to round out the offseason roster, general manager Brett Veach has decided to bring back a familiar face to compete at tight end.

Per the NFL's transaction wire, the Chiefs re-signed Gerritt Prince on Wednesday, who was previously with the team last season on the practice squad.

The addition of Prince keeps a local product in tow, which also makes for a nice story, as a native of Shawnee, Kansas. Prince went on to play at both Butler Community College and then University of Alabama-Birmingham where he caught 30 passes for 699 yards and 10 touchdowns his final season.

The production at UAB turned the heads of several teams, including the Chiefs who had Prince in for a private pre-draft visit. However, it was the Jacksonville Jaguars who offered him a rookie free agent contract following the 2022 NFL Draft. Prince spent that year on the Jags roster. However, he was cut the following preseason and the Chiefs picked him up in the process.

Prince joins Izaiah Gathings, Noah Gray, and Travis Kelce on the roster as tight ends while the verdict is still out on scheduled free agents Jody Fortson and Blake Bell.
