The Kansas City Chiefs have had a private workout with Gerrit Prince as they scout prospects for the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft.

The Kansas City Chiefs are certainly doing their homework on a plethora of young tight ends heading into the 2022 NFL season, with plenty of them already signed to the roster as well as numerous prospect visits and interactions before reaching the 2022 NFL Draft.

The latest face at the position to spend time with the Chiefs coaches and scouts is Gerrit Prince, who led college football tight ends last season with 10 touchdowns in his final season at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

Prince, a Shawnee native, is a converted wide receiver, so he’s on the leaner side in terms of overall build for the position at 6’4, 239 lbs. He joined UAB after going the JuCo route and slowly found his rhythm as a go-to offensive weapon, especially in the end zone during his final two seasons (he had two redshirt seasons), with 10 scores to go with his 36 catches and 699 yards.

The Chiefs are at an interesting point when it comes to the tight end position knowing that Travis Kelce is still firmly entrenched in his spot as the best tight end in the NFL. Kelce has been a perennial Pro Bowler at the position, even as he’s crested the hill into his thirties. Last year, Kelce had 1,125 yards and 9 touchdowns, yet he’ll be 33 years old in ’22 which begs the question as to just how long he can keep up such an incredible run.

The Chiefs have shown interest in other tight end prospects with visits such as Texas A&M’s Jalen Wydermyer and Pitt’s Lucas Krull.
