B.Purdy steps back to pass. B.Purdy sacked at SF 29 for -4 yards (J.Reid; G.Karlaftis)

After the Chiefs turned over the ball down by a score, San Francisco had all the momentum once again. This sack, thanks to Justin Reid and George Karlaftis, ended a 49ers drive.

MVS puts Kansas City on top

02:32 Q3 - 1st and 10 β€’ KC ball on SF 16

P.Mahomes pass deep right complete to SF End Zone. Catch made by M.Valdes-Scantling at SF End Zone. Gain of 16 yards. M.Valdes-Scantling for 16 yards, TOUCHDOWN. (TOUCHDOWN)

Veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling was the benefactor of an excellent play design, being wide-open in the end zone late in the third quarter. He hasn't been good for much of 2023, but scoring a Super Bowl touchdown to put your team on top earned him some brownie points with the Chiefs Kingdom.

McDuffie's pressure keeps Kansas City's hopes alive

02:00 Q4 - 3rd and 5 β€’ SF ball on KC 35

B.Purdy steps back to pass. B.Purdy pass incomplete short left intended for J.Jennings (T.McDuffie).

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo loves to dial up the blitz, but bringing it on this pivotal play was a huge risk. Thankfully, it played out well for Kansas City and ensured Mahomes had one more shot against the 49ers.

Kelce's clutch 22-yard grab

00:16 Q4 - 3rd and 7 β€’ KC ball on SF 33

P.Mahomes pass complete to SF 33. Catch made by T.Kelce at SF 33. Gain of 22 yards. Pushed out of bounds by SF at SF 11.

Butker ties it up

00:06 Q4 - 2nd and 10 β€’ KC ball on SF 11

H.Butker 29 yard field goal attempt is good, Center-J.Winchester, Holder-T.Townsend.

Harrison Butker had a historic Super Bowl LVIII, but there was no bigger kick than nailing this one to send this game to overtime.
