Four surprise cut candidates for the Kansas City Chiefs after the NFL draft
By Grant Tuttle
4. Derrick Nnadi, Defensive Tackle
Derrick Nnadi has remained on the roster since Brett Veach's first draft with the Chiefs in 2018. Ever since his rookie contract expired, there has been some speculation about when or if the Chiefs might part ways. Like clockwork, however, the Chiefs have brought him back on a series of one-year deals. Once again, the Chiefs brought him back on a single-season contract this offseason. Could this be the year that they finally decide to move on?
Nnadi serves a very specific role on the roster. As the primary run-stopper in the middle of the defensive line, Nnadi eats blockers and disrupts rushing lanes. With some quiet additions in the last two seasons, could the Chiefs have found another option to take on the role of primary interior run defender.
Neil Farrell was added in a trade with the Raiders when the season started a year ago and Mike Pennel proved to be an asset down the stretch for the Chiefs. If the Chiefs believe that they can get the same skills for cheaper (e.g. Fabien Lovett Sr.?), it might be time to move on.
