The Kansas City Chiefs have completed a pre-deadline trade with the Las Vegas Raiders on the verge of the National Football League's roster cuts being due. According to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter, the Chiefs will send a sixth-round draft choice to Las Vegas for defensive tackle Neil Farrell.
Farrell will still have three years left on his rookie contract from the Raiders after being selected in the fourth round just last spring by the Raiders.
Coming into the start of the regular season, the interior of the defensive line is without a doubt the greatest concern on the roster for the defending champs. The Chiefs have gone without All-Pro Chris Jones for the entirety of the preseason as he remains a holdout due to contractual frustrations. From there the Chiefs have also watched Turk Wharton struggle to stay on the practice field as he returns from a season-ending leg injury in 2021.
The Kansas City Chiefs worked out a deal with the Raiders to bolster the defensive front in the wake of a pretty strong roster concern.
After finishing his career at LSU, the 330 lb. lineman who stands 6'4" entered the NFL as a run-stuffing lineman with a pro-ready frame with great strength. While he was forced to wait until Day 3 of the draft due to being one-dimensional as a force, the truth is that the Chiefs needed a significant boost among nose tackles even if they didn't have concerns.
Farrell had 45 tackles in 12 games for the LSU Tigers in his final season in Baton Rouge, including 9.5 tackles for loss. Last year for the Raiders, he appeared as a rotational run stuffer in 9 games and had 12 tackles and 2 quarterback hits.
