Four Chiefs players who could be traded before the season starts
By Matt Conner
Richie James, WR
For all of the offseason activity of the Kansas City Chiefs, the move to sign wide receiver Richie James to a very inexpensive one-year deal might be among the shrewdest of all.
Just last year, James enjoyed a breakout effort at the age of 27 with the New York Giants after spending his first few years with the 49ers. With a number of injuries in front of him on the depth chart, James took advantage of the opportunity in front of him and caught 57 of the 70 targets thrown his way by Daniel Jones for 569 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. Beyond that, he has also served as a Giants' primary options on both kick and punt returns.
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has stated to the media that he's been interested in James before, which could make it more difficult to figure out what to do with him. James provides great versatility and recent production for peanuts (just over $1.05M) for the year, yet there are other cost-controlled wideouts who could step into a similar role for a longer stretch of time.
If Nikko Remiggio proves he can be a return option in a crowded space, or if Cornell Powell makes a leap forward and reminds us all of his presence, the Chiefs might to figure out what to do with James and see if there's some trade interest on the market (which there should be).
