There are a number of quality free agents available for NFL teams at this stage, mostly veterans who were smart enough to work out on their own and avoid minicamp and offseason training activities with an early signing. But there's only one free agent generating headlines like it's the middle of March: wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
One day soon, Hopkins is a likely candidate for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, and the fact that he could have a solid season or three left in the tank is what has some teams interested in his services.
So far, the only demonstrated interest in Hopkins has come from the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots in the form of official visits. However, the bb with Hopkins even before he was released by Arizona and the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills have also all been allegedly interested at one time or another this spring.
DeAndre Hopkins is trying to drum up more interest as training camp dates creep closer on the NFL calendar.
For those wanting to know how things will play out, however, Hopkins is reportedly going to take his sweet time—as if he hasn't already. The Titans and Pats can't feel too good about extending offers to Hopkins only to have him ask for patience. What does this mean? Dianna Russini of ESPN has the latest word in a recent appearance on NFL Live.
"The sales job continues, trying to get more teams interested in him at this point. Right now we know there’s only two teams that have had DeAndre Hopkins come to their facilities, of course, that being the Tennessee Titans and the New England Patriots," said Russini.
"I was told by sources close to the situation that Hopkins is going over some of those offers from both those teams, the Titans and the Patriots," she continued. "He’s mulling over and trying to come up with a decision with what he wants to do.
"I was told to be very patient here. This isn’t something that’s going to go down in the next 24 to 48 hours. It’s going to take some time for DeAndre Hopkins to come up with the final decision on where he wants to play."
