Chiefs news: Xavier Worthy among 40 invited to 2024 NFLPA Rookie Premiere
By Matt Conner
Every year, the National Football League's Players Association invites a few dozen of the most high-profile rookies from the most recent draft class to come together in the Los Angeles area for a three-day weekend of networking, marketing, and educational purposes, together known as the NFLPA Rookie Premiere.
This year, a total of 40 participants were selected and, just like most years, the list was mostly focused on the biggest names on the offensive side. In fact, the only defenders of the 40 rookies invited were pass rushers Dallas Turner and Laiatu Latu.
This year's event will be held from May 16-19..
Not every team is guaranteed to be represented at every Rookie Premiere event, but this year, the Kansas City Chiefs will send one player to L.A.: first-round wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
The Chiefs' first-round pick will be the team's only representative at the annual media event.
Worthy will be a part of a talented group of rookies who will enjoy seeing their jerseys unveiled for the first time with their name and number. Participants also walk away with a ton of incredible gifts courtesy of numerous partners who are involved with the event—from Pepsi to Proctor & Gamble. Past gifts have included free e-bikes, Sleep Number mattresses, diamond necklackes and more.
As part of the event, these high-profile rookies are brought alongside major companies with whom they can develop potential marketing partnerships. Former or current NFL veterans are also on hand to give advice and answer questions about life as a professional athlete and how to handle the business side of the event. Given Panini's involvement, players will also have their photos taken for future sportscard releases.
Last year, Rashee Rice was the only player invited from the Chiefs. Cornell Powell was a participant the year before that. In previous seasons, Mecole Hardman was invited back in 2019 and both Patrick Mahomes and Kareem Hunt were a part of the 2017 edition.
