The Chiefs signed Creed Humphrey to a long-term deal on Thursday and the Chiefs GM says more are in the pipeline.

Earlier this year, Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach spoke openly about his hopes and plans to find a way to bring back a few key young players back after this coming season with some strategic financial commitments that would enable the team to keep their young core together.

On Thursday, one of those players was officially retained.

Reports leaked on Thursday that the Chiefs had reached a long-term agreement with center Creed Humphrey on a new four-year contract extension worth up to $72 million—including $50 million in guaranteed money. The move makes Humphrey the highest-paid center in the game.

Humphrey's news was welcomed by all of Chiefs Kingdom as great news that will keep the All-Pro center in K.C. for the foreseeable future. However, Veach stated after the fact that he wasn't done just. yet.

During the broadcast of the Chiefs third and final preseason game, Veach joined the broadcast team of Ari Wolfe and Trent Green. When asked about Humphrey's deal, he said, '"...needless to say, we're extremely excited to continue Creed's career here. He's been great for our organization, and look, we've been very fortunate to have really a good group of young guys, and hopefully we're able to get a little bit more work done with some of these other young guys as well."

The other young guys Veach is referring to are linebacker Nick Bolton and guard Trey Smith—two players he already mentioned earlier this summer in reference to hoping for long-term deals. It's important to note that Veach's team was also able to retain kicker Harrison Butker with a long-term deal several days before the Humphrey extension.

Bolton was a second-round pick in the same draft as Humphrey. As the team's captain and leader at linebacker, he's the heart of Steve Spagnuolo's defense who is also the team's most reliable tackler. As for Smith, he was a sixth-round pick with medicals that scared away most teams at the time. However, Smith has turned heads steadily since entering the league by playing excellent football and starting every single game in the last two seasons prove his health issues are a thing of the past.

The Chiefs are already up against the cap for this season. Hopefully the Humphrey deal is structured in a way whreee----------------- hdfajj
