Chiefs' local pro day gives important look at o-line talent before 2024 NFL Draft
By Matt Conner
Every spring, the month of April gives way to showers or flowers or whatever the rhyme says. It also brings the annual NFL Draft, and in preparation for the three-day event, the Kansas City Chiefs host a Local Pro Day to help get a better read on prospects who might interest them.
Last year, cornerback Ekow Boye-Doe, a Kansas State product, was a participant in the Chiefs' Local Pro Day and went on to earn a contract as an undrafted free agent. Not only did he earn a look in the preseason but he remains on the roster nearly a year later.
Other names who have been on the roster after attending a Local Pro Day include defensive back DeVante Bausby and tight end Gerrit Prince.
The Chiefs hosted several prospects for their annual local pro day and some important prospects were in attendance.
This year, the most draft-ready talent to attend the Chiefs Local Pro Day was likely Kansas State interior offensive lineman Cooper Beebe. Beebe is a thick lineman with four years of starting experience for the Wildcats with the strength, instincts, and frame to play at the next level. Hence hte reason he earned the Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year award for each of the past two seasons.
Unfortunately for Beebe, his 31-inch arms are going to be a red flag for scouts and his middling athleticism will mar his projections for some teams. Still he should be in play around the draft's midsection and the Chiefs are getting an up-close look at Arrowhead on Tuesday.
Beyond Beebe, the Wildcats sent three other offensive linemen to the Chiefs Local Pro Day hoping that someone might stand out if given the chance. That list includes starting center Hayden Gillum and right tackle Christian Duffie, who has over 40 career starts to his credit.
The Chiefs will officially update press outlets with a list of those in attendance at their Local Pro Day, but here's a rundown culled together of who we know is in attendance so far.
