As long as the scoring defense remains a strength, KC will be incredibly exhausting to dethrone as they remain Super Bowl favorites.

The Kansas City Chiefs completed the task of winning back-to-back Super Bowls just under seven months ago. In NFL history, no team has ever won three straight Super Bowls. But as the Chiefs have made it clear, they are not looking to slow down. Kansas City looks to make more history and get that unimaginable three-peat accomplished.

Chiefs Sit Just Ahead Of Recent Super Bowl Combatant

When it comes to the betting odds for Super Bowl LIX, the Chiefs are the current favorites via FanDuel. Kansas City sits at +550 odds to win it all. Narrowly behind them is the San Francisco 49ers at +600 odds. It is probably no surprise that the sportsbook lists the two Super Bowl combatants from last year as the favorites. But of course, the difficulty of getting back to that Super Bowl after playing in it the year before is as challenging as ever.

There is a fairly good gap between San Francisco and the next few teams. FanDuel has the Baltimore Ravens (+1100 odds), the Detroit Lions (+1200 odds), and the Philadelphia Eagles (+1300 odds) to round out the top five in Super Bowl LIX odds. Of course, Detroit and Baltimore were both so close to getting to the Super Bowl last year. The Ravens arguably had their best shot in quite some time with the one seed in the AFC in hand. Meanwhile, the Lions blew a lead in the NFC Championship Game, giving them even more fuel entering 2024.

Could Chiefs Be Even Better As Defending Champions?

Even with the odds stacked against defending champions, the Chiefs are always going to have a clear shot with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid leading the way. Kansas City has either made it to the AFC Championship Game or the Super Bowl in every season where Mahomes has been the starter. And after a down year for him and the Chiefs offense, by their standards, you could argue that Kansas City's offense will be even tougher to slow down as they look for a three-peat.

With a revamped wide receiver room and increased speed at skill positions, Mahomes will be able to pick his poison. Making defenses respect that quickness and perhaps more downfield passes will be fascinating to watch.

Defensively, the Chiefs are returning many of their pieces from last year's dominant unit. Losing L'Jarius Sneed will create a fresh opportunity for certain cornerbacks on the outside. But with Steve Spagnuolo's aggressive play calls and pressure packages, Kansas City can still put opposing offenses in bind, and the Chiefs defense is looking to increase takeaways this season.

As long as the scoring defense remains a strength, KC will be incredibly exhausting to dethrone as they remain Super Bowl favorites.
