Cam Taylor-Britt backs up trash talk with stellar interception of Patrick Mahomes
By Matt Conner
It pains us to say it, but you have to give credit where credit is due and Cam Taylor-Britt deserves a lot of it.
Coming into this week, Taylor Britt, the veteran cornerback for the Cincinnati Bengals, was generating headlines with his quotes about the team's then-upcoming game in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
In the third quarter, Taylor-Britt had his moment and he made it count with a sensational play that stopped the Chiefs' momentum and preserved a Bengals lead going into the fourth quarter.
You have to credit Cam Taylor-Britt on this one.
In case you missed it, Taylor-Britt spoke about the Chiefs offense this week and stated that the team's newest weapon in first-round pick Xavier Worthy was one-dimensional.
"Speed. That's about it. He can run straight. Run jet sweeps and just run straight. He can't do too much else, so that's about it. "Feel like you can put hands on him — he's only 100-something pounds — so you put hands on him you can stop the speed. So basically just put hands on him," said Taylor-Britt.
Given the salty nature of his comments and the state of the rivalry between these teams in the last few years, the Chiefs enjoyed a brief moment of shoving the results in Taylor-Britt's face earlier in the game when he was burned by Rashee Rice for a long touchdown on this play.
However, Taylor-Britt got the chance to enjoy the latest laugh in the third quarter with the Chiefs marching while down 22-17. Mahomes and company were at mid-field when he attempted to hit Worthy with a deep ball along the left sideline. That very matchup is what Taylor-Britt had mentioned and this was the (unfortunate) result.
Yeah, that's a helluva grab that reminded everyone of Odell Beckham Jr. or similar grabs in recent NFL history—and certainly that will be a highlight reel played for quite some time in Bengals' circles, especially if they hold on for the victory.
No one at Arrowhead wants to see these sorts of things, but we're not so far gone that we can't tip our hat to an outstanding play from the other team. That was an incredible way to walk the walk after a week of talking.
