Chiefs take the high road while Bengals foolishly trash talk Xavier Worthy

In yet another chapter of the heated rivalry between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs, one side is being very complimentary of their AFC foes while another is trying to needle their opponent and give them indirect bulletin board material. See if you can guess which side is which.

The Chiefs are well aware of the challenge that the always-chatty Cincinnati, who will be very motivated fresh off a humbling loss to the Patriots at home, will bring. Cornerback Trent McDuffie highlighted how difficult it is to guard wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, while wide receiver Xavier Worthy praised Chase's time at LSU. The Chiefs didn't succumb to the same level of trash talk Cincinnati usually managed to spout off.

Rather than return the favor with the standard brand of NFL media platitudes, the Bengals have chosen to take aim at the Chiefs. Cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt, who is assuredly going to get some snaps against Worthy in what will be the Texas speedster's second professional game, decided to poke the bear.

Taylor-Britt ripped Worthy's skill set, claiming that the only thing he can do is run go routes because of his speed. Dismissing Worthy as a player who "can run straight" and nothing else could come back to bite Taylor-Britt, who has a major speed disadvantage when compared to Worthy.

Worthy's first professional touch was an end-around that resulted in a touchdown. Noticeably, that tough was not a go route. Apparently, Taylor-Britt must have missed that play. His 35-yard touchdown also shows how deadly Worthy can be in this offense, even if Taylor-Britt chose not to see it.

Worthy's bread and butter is always going to be the vertical passing game, and we still need to see if a player as skinny as him can win consistently in physical man coverage. In terms of pure playmaking talent, however, Worthy has enough juice to make the Bengals pay.

The Bengals are quite a talkative bunch for a team that lost a home game against a Patriots team that is so bereft of talent many expected them to be the worst team in the league this year. Poking and prodding a team led by Patrick Mahomes is likely not going to be the best way to get Kansas City off their game.

While a banged-up Joe Burrow has had his moments against Mahomes, Taylor-Britt may be writing some checks that the still-recuperating Bengals quarterback might not be able to cash.
