4 free agent bargains the Kansas City Chiefs should have made
By Matt Conner
The Chiefs have come away with some great deals so far in free agency, but some missed opportunities have surprised us.
We're not here to complain. The Kansas City Chiefs deserve applause for the deals they've already found in free agency.
So far, the Chiefs have played things patiently on the open market, and while some very good players have gone to other teams, the good news is that the Chiefs have addressed needs with good options on solid contracts. No foul spending. No scary contracts.
From tight end Irv Smith signing a minimum sort of deal to Hollywood Brown agreeing to a very team-friendly single-season contract, the Chiefs have exhibited much-needed restraint and their long-term outlook will be all the better for it. Even a host of returnees are accepting single-season deals on the cheap for K.C. Guess this is good news after committing over $30M annually to Chris Jones.
While the Chiefs have put together some thrifty deals, that's not to say they haven't missed out on some bargains. Here are a few deals we think general manager Brett Veach should have been in on when looking at the overall market.
