Chiefs fans know that Travis Kelce is closer to the end of his career than the beginning of it so it wouldn't have been shocking if the team decided to add some help at tight end this offseason. They kicked that off by signing Irv Smith Jr., who has mostly been a disappointment since the Minnesota Vikings took him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Smith battled injuries during his time with the Vikings and never totaled more than 365 yards in a single season. The Bengals signed him last year as a low-risk/high-reward option and he went on to underwhelm in Cincinnati as well, finishing the 2023 season with only 18 catches for 115 yards and one touchdown.

Now Smith is on his third team in three years but it's not going to be a cakewalk for him to make the roster. Not only is Kelce ahead of him on the depth chart but Noah Gray and fourth-round rookie draft pick Jared Wiley will likely be in front of him as well.

Smith is going to have to ball out this summer if he wants to stick around in Kansas City.
