Patrick Mahomes had a perfect response to Travis Kelce’s lateral on MNF

These two are hilarious.

There's a very well-documented chemistry at work between the two offensive pillars on the Kansas City Chiefs. Both Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce have a way of working together on the field in unexplainable terms. Somehow they know just how the other is thinking, a well-developed sixth sense about the way their teammate works, which leads to sustained success no matter what the defense throws at them.

Then again, according to Mahomes, sometimes working with Kelce is like... parenting a toddler?

During the Chiefs' most recent win, their fifth in five games, this time over the visiting New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football in Week 5, the connection between Mahomes and Kelce was on full display once again. In fact, it was the duo's best output of the season, statistically speaking, as Kelce went for 9 catches on 10 targets for 70 yards—second on the team.

On one play in particular, Kelce helped the Chiefs gain plenty more yards by taking a risk and lateraling the ball to running back Samaje Perine for a greater offensive gain late in the second quarter.

The lateral was the sort of play that everyone talking. A debate emerged as to whether it was scripted or not. Head coach Andy Reid even answered questions about the play after the game and said that his guys practice it "every single day."

After the game, Mahomes took to the podium to answer questions from reporters himself about the play and what happened. The Chiefs All-Pro quarterback could only laugh and then offered up this memorable quote in which he compared trying to command Kelce to trying to do the same with his three-year-old daughter, Sterling.

“I’m shaking my head because I told him before the play, 'I’m gonna throw it to you' so he can get in field goal range. Then he underhand shoveled it across the entire field. It’s like I’m talking to Sterling. That’s Travis, man. He’s a special player. As long as he does it and it works, no one is gonna say anything.”

As for trying to tell his actual daughter what to do, Mahomes did have a message for her while talking briefly to ESPN during the broadcast.

We're not sure if she obeyed him either.
