With wild card weekend wrapping up, the Kansas City Chiefs are no longer on a bye week and have to gear up to play like everyone else in the postseason picture. The opponent for the Chiefs this week as they look to make it to their seventh straight AFC title game is the Houston Texans, who the Chiefs handled in Week 16, winning by eight points.
The Texans won the weak AFC South but sort of limped into the playoffs, which is why not many people gave them much of a chance to knock off the red-hot Los Angeles Chargers in the wild card round. The Texans heard that noise and while it took them nearly an entire half to get going offensively, they ended up thumping the Chargers, winning the game by 20 points.
That game alone proves that you never know what's going to happen in the playoffs. Chiefs fans know this better than anyone and aren't buying into K.C. being a touchdown favorite over the Texans. After all, this is the same team that has fans on the edge of their seats nearly every week. Anyone thinking that the Chiefs are going to cruise to victory, especially in the playoffs, haven't been watching this team for very long.
Chiefs are 7.5-point favorites against Texans in divisional round
The only other team with better odds to win this weekend are the Lions, who are 8.5-point favorites over the sixth-seeded Commanders. Unsurprisingly, the two games with the lopsided odds are both being played on Saturday while the other two games will take place on Sunday. We don't know the odds for the Eagles game yet since their opponent still needs to be sorted out but the Ravens are actually 1.5-point favorites on the road in Buffalo for that Bills/Ravens game.
Back to the Chiefs, most fans would have gladly accepted a match-up against the Texans in the divisional round and now they'll get their wish. As we witnessed last week, however, don't expect the Texans to rollover and let Kansas City waltz into the AFC title game though. This one will probably come down to the wire like all of the Chiefs games do.
