The World Cup is in full swing and Kansas Citians are still raving about what transpired at Arrowhead Stadium on Tuesday night. For those who might have missed it, Lionel Messi put on a clinic at the temporarily renamed Kansas City Stadium, scoring his first-ever World Cup hat trick in front of the 69,000+ fans that packed themselves inside the stadium to witness greatness.

Argentina went on to win the game 3-0 over Algeria and, with the win, Messi has already done something that a former Kansas City Chiefs rival never could. Argentina defeating Algeria means that Messi officially has more wins at Arrowhead Stadium than former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. What's even funnier is that it took Messi just two games to pass Carr in the Arrowhead wins column.

Derek Carr is still catching strays for his lack of success at Arrowhead

Let's break it down, shall we?

Messi has played two games at Arrowhead. The first came in April 2024 when Messi and Inter Miami took on Sporting Kansas City in a bigger venue, allowing more people to watch his magic on the pitch. Messi's squad won 3-2. That's one victory inside Arrowhead Stadium.

The second, of course, happened on Tuesday night against Algeria. Messi scored three goals and left no doubt about his legacy.

As for Carr, the former second-round pick of the Raiders in 2014 played 10 total games at Arrowhead and racked up just one win. He finished his career with a 1-9 record while playing in Kansas City. That's gotta hurt.

For those wondering, Carr's lone win on the Chiefs' home turf came in 2020 when the silver and black narrowly escaped Arrowhead with a victory. To celebrate, they childishly drove their busses around the stadium in a move that would massively come back to haunt them a year later. The Chiefs took it to the Raiders, beating them 48-9 in a late-season game in 2021 and then played "The Wheels On The Bus" over the PA system when the blowout was in the books.

Carr retired from the NFL in 2025 following a less-than-impressive two-year stint with the Saints. He's been out of the league since 2024 and while he's expressed some interest in a potential return, he's probably desperately hoping he doesn't have to visit Arrowhead ever again. After seeing a stat like this, it's not hard to see why that'd be the case.

Hey, at least he's being listed in the same stat as Lionel Messi though. That's something, right? And maybe if he does unretire, he can tie Messi after all.
