The Kansas City Chiefs aren't in season right now but their home stadium was the site of an exciting moment in the world of soccer. As some might know, Kansas City is one of several cities in the US that is hosting World Cup matches this summer.

Tuesday night marked Arrowhead's first World Cup match and that alone would have been pretty cool. Throw in that freaking Lionel Messi and Argentina were one of the teams playing at the temporarily renamed Kansas City Stadium (only for the World Cup, don't worry) and the goat of futbol put on one heck of a show for the 69,000+ in attendance.

Messi scored the first hat trick of his World Cup career and sent Argentina fans home happy, as they prevailed 3-0 over Algeria. Both Argentina and Algeria are based in or near Kansas City during this World Cup with the Argentinians staying near the River Market and the Algerians residing in Lawrence, Kansas.

As for what all of this has to do with the Chiefs outside of their stadium being a host of the World Cup, well, that's an easy one. Kansas City's own GOAT, Patrick Mahomes, was in attendance for Messi's big performance and responded to what one of soccer's greatest players did on his home field. His message was simple: Three goat emojis, one for each goal that Messi scored at Arrowhead on Tuesday night.

Patrick Mahomes was in attendance for Lionel Messi's hat trick in K.C.

It wasn't surprising to Chiefs fans to see Mahomes at the game. It was a huge moment for Kansas City, as the entire world was watching to see what Messi was going to do against Algeria. K.C. has proudly worn the "Soccer Capital of America" honor for several years now and that was on full display on Tuesday night.

The way the city has embraced the Kansas City Current, a women's soccer team, in recent years is strong proof of that as well. The broadcast also noted that, during the men's U.S game the previous Friday night, Kansas City had the highest viewership. Plus, any time the U.S.A. is playing in a key international game, watch parties at Power and Light are almost always shown on the TV broadcast.

Of course the king of Kansas City would be in attendance to watch the king of the World Cup do his thing. Would you expect anything less from one GOAT to another?
