Patrick Mahomes would likely approve of the latest rumors swirling around the 2025 NFL Draft plans for the Kansas City Chiefs. That's because the team is expected to make its offense a significant focus with its earliest selections.
The 2025 NFL Draft is coming up at the end of April—April 24-26, to be specific—and the Chiefs are stuck picking at No. 31 overall as the losing team of Super Bowl LIX. That means general manager Brett Veach is likely out of range for the draft's most impactful prospects, but Kansas City will still be in play for some exciting offensive prospects.
The latest rumors from ESPN's Jordan Reid suggest that the Chiefs aren't afraid of investing another early draft pick at offensive tackle—perhaps even in the first round. That would come on the heels of last season's second-round choice of Kingsley Suamataia, who is being shifted to left guard in the wake of the Joe Thuney trade earlier this offseason.
Patrick Mahomes should be pleased to hear the latest pre-draft rumors for the Chiefs.
The Chiefs also added Jaylon Moore as the presumed starter with a two-year deal in free agency. Moore has never been a full-time starter, however, and it makes sense for the Chiefs to add someone—Reid names Josh Simmons as a potential play—as a competitor at left tackle or an heir at right tackle (with Jawaan Taylor potentially entering his last season in K.C.).
Reid also mentions that the Chiefs are likely to take a running back on day two, which will come as no surprise to anyone who has viewed the depth chart at running back. The Chiefs have added Elijah Mitchell in free agency and retained Kareem Hunt, so the cupboard isn't bare next to Isiah Pacheco, but all three players come with asterisks and the overall ceiling could use a boost.
Given the slump in offensive numbers over the last two seasons, Mahomes would have to be thrilled with such a draft focus to upgrade the ground game and cement his protection up front. Don't be surprised if the Chiefs also add another pass catcher with four picks in the draft's top 100.
