Khalen Saunders might have left the Kansas City Chiefs following the 2022 season but that hasn't stopped him from continuing to cheer on his old squad. Chiefs fans (as well as other fan bases) have probably noticed how much Saunders posts about his old team on social media, which could tick some people off considering he's been a member of the New Orleans Saints since 2023.
Saunders recently addressed on X why he continues to root for Kansas City despite no longer playing for them. His reason is that he and everyone else are witnessing history right now.
"Yall gotta understand, For guys like myself, [Tyreek Hill], [Willie Gay], [L'Jarius] [S]need, and others that have moved on from the chiefs still want to see them do good bc at the end of the day, this s*** is history we are witnessing. And we part of that. So yes whenever i ain’t in it it’s KC".
Khalen Saunders explains why he's still a Chiefs fan
Saunders was a third-round pick of the Chiefs in 2019 and won two Super Bowls with them. One of those championships came during Saunders' rookie year in 2019 and the other was during his last season with the team in 2022.
The Chiefs didn't re-sign Saunders following their Super Bowl LVII win over Philadelphia and he went on to ink a three-year deal with the Saints. Saunders mentioned in a follow-up post to the previous one that unless the Chiefs are playing his team, he's going to root for his old squad. He even mentions that he had his best game against his former team, returning an interception 37 yards in hilarious fashion.
With so many vocal Chiefs haters buzzing around out there right now, it's nice to know that former players such as Saunders and the others he mentions are on Kansas City's side and pulling for them to make history in New Orleans. Hell, Saunders was even kind enough to offer up his place for his former teammates since the big game is in the city he calls home now. What a guy.
