If the rumors are true, it won't be a third consecutive running back on the cover of the Madden video game series. That's because the Madden 27 edition is expected to feature Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams on its front when it's officially unveiled in August.
Nothing is set in stone yet, but designs were making their way around social media feeds with Williams on the cover. That brings the honor back around to the quarterback position for the first time since Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills was highlighted on Madden 24. For a hot second there, it felt like it might have been a Chiefs running back.

Walker had 1,309 yards from scrimmage a year ago for Seattle as an explosive back for the NFL's champs. He helped them achieve that very honor with a gutsy performance against the New England Patriots with 27 carries for 135 yards. He racked up a total 417 yards from scrimmage and 4 touchdowns across 3 playoff games in 2025.
It feels awkward or even wrong to think that a Chiefs running back could be so prominently displayed after the last few years of anemic production. Sure, the reunion of Kareem Hunt has been a heartening story, but no one is ready to put that on the cover of football's most popular video game, even among Chiefs fans. Even more, the idea of any Chiefs player on the cover after a six-win season is laughable.
However, the Chiefs' offseason featured seismic changes at running back with the signing of former Seattle Seahawks star Kenneth Walker III. On the heels of his Super Bowl MVP performance, Walker was a popular bet to be featured on the newest Madden cover, which would have made three consecutive RBs—following Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley (Madden 26) and San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (Madden 25).
The Chiefs have found themselves represented more than most teams in the last decade on Madden covers with multiple appearances from Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes was first featured on Madden 20 and again, two years later, with Madden 22, a joint cover with Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.
