Kansas City Chiefs franchise quarterback Patrick Mahomes continues to beat the odds amid his remarkable recovery from a torn left ACL and LCL. He's put in significant work and cleared one massive hurdle after another with the intention of coming back stronger than before.

Mahomes is undeniably the Chiefs' biggest offseason topic, though he's far from the only storyline worth following. Future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce is gearing up for what could be his last dance in the NFL. The club has also signaled a desire to undergo a significant offensive shift, headlined by prized free-agent running back Kenneth Walker III's arrival.

It's a unique time in the Mahomes era. There's never been this much uncertainty surrounding Kansas City's identity on his side of the ball since he ascended to superstardom nearly a decade ago. Fantasy football managers are used to being rewarded for investing in the three-time Super Bowl champion and anyone attached to him.

Can drafters confidently take the plunge on Mahomes as a QB1 this summer? Is Kelce still a top-10 option at his position in point-per-reception (PPR) formats? Does anyone trust standout wide receiver Rashee Rice to get through 17 games, whether it be off-field or health concerns?

Training camp and the preseason will certainly give us a much better idea of what to expect from Mahomes and Co. in 2026. The updates will be flowing once the pads come on, so stay tuned and let this be an information hub.

Note: This story will be updated regularly throughout the Kansas City Chiefs' training camp and preseason.

Latest fantasy football updates for the Chiefs: News, injuries and position battles

Rashee Rice still has room to grow after knee surgery -- 8/12

ESPN's Nate Taylor reported that Rice seemed to labor when doing a one-on-one rep against Jaden Kennedy, coming in and out of his breaks. In previous practices, he has looked like his normal self, which shows he still has some rust off that procedure.

Cyrus Allen is right back to making plays -- 8/11

Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest reported that Allen was busy in practice yet again. He found first-team reps and has been able to get multiple targets from Patrick Mahomes. His route running and ability to find soft spots in coverage are examples why he'll have a role in this offense.

Xavier Worthy returned to practice -- 8/10

Worthy was back at practice after missing a couple of days with a shoulder injury. Head coach Andy Reid wasn't too concerned, and his return put things at bay.

Cyrus Allen is back on the field -- 8/7

After missing some time with a shin bruise, Allen was back in pads for the Chiefs.

Emmett Johnson buzz continues to rise at camp -- 8/6

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reported that Johnson is gathering a role for himself in an offense as "an explosive, decisive runner." Brashard Smith and Emari Demercado are other depth options in the backfield, but Johnson's rise can't be ignored.

ESPN's Dan Graziano believes Emmett Johnson could be Chiefs' RB2 -- 8/4

After visiting the Chiefs' camp on July 31 and Aug. 1, Graziano thinks Johnson "has a shot to be the No. 2 back." The 2026 fifth-round selection has three-down ability, yet so does his backfield competitor, Emari Demercado.

Johnson having a chance to be Kenneth Walker III's primary backup is an important development on multiple fronts. Demercado can quietly be one of fantasy's best insurance policies. The veteran tailback flashed as a runner and pass-catcher out of the backfield in limited opportunities during his tenure with the Arizona Cardinals.

ESPN's Dan Graziano uncovers how Chiefs 'hope' to utilize Xavier Worthy -- 8/4

Kansas City would like to get Worthy involved "in the screen game and on crossing routes" to flash his game-changing speed.

In theory, getting Worthy in open space and creating mismatches in man coverage/finding soft spots in zone makes a ton of sense. In practice, however, the 5-foot-11, 165-pound playmaker may not be physically built to handle such a role. While he has some upside as a WR4, the constant drumbeat of fifth-round rookie Cyrus Allen's rise speaks volumes.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid says Cyrus Allen will be back soon -- 8/3

When addressing the media after practice on Aug. 3, Reid suggested Allen could return in "a day or two," depending on the swelling.

Phew. And now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reveals Cyrus Allen dodged a bullet -- 8/1

Testing showed a shin bruise for Allen. Nothing torn or broken, which is a "best-case scenario," as Schefter expressed.

Let the hype train keep on rolling! Allen is day-to-day.

Cyrus Allen buzz comes crashing down with injury scare -- 8/1

A leg injury resulted in Allen getting carted off the practice field and into the locker room (h/t The Kansas City Star's Sam McDowell).

The Chiefs can't seem to have nice things anymore. Hopefully, Allen avoided any major issues and can get back to making a great impression on Patrick Mahomes and Co.

Cyrus Allen is the talk of the town in KC -- 7/31

Allen isn't only catching every football thrown his way but also catching people's attention. He's "the No. 1 story in camp so far," according to Jesse Newell of The Athletic.

Hearing one glowing Allen review after another is certainly encouraging. At the same time, let's not get too carried away here. This isn't the first time an unheralded Kansas City newcomer lit it up in practices; Chiefs Kingdom presumably hasn't forgotten the lore of Justyn Ross.

Chiefs are tailoring to Kenneth Walker's strengths -- 7/30

Veering from a shotgun-heavy blueprint to a more conventional approach is happening with Walker in mind, at least to some degree (h/t ESPN's Nate Taylor). It enables sideline general Andy Reid an opportunity to assess the Super Bowl LX MVP's efforts between the tackles, his "preferred running style."

It looks like Kansas City is gearing up to lean into Walker as the focal point of its attack, and understandably so. His dynamism and Mahomes' injury lend themselves to a ground-and-pound tactic, which makes for an RB1 setup.

Chiefs adjusting the passing offense? -- 7/30

ESPN's Nate Taylor is monitoring Kansas City's implementation of under-center formations and play-action passes.

Now this would be an interesting and welcome change. The Chiefs were in shotgun on 80.6 percent of Mahomes' snaps in 2025, via Taylor, and were among the most static offenses. A philosophical shift can only help a unit that uncharacteristically ranked near the bottom in several key metrics.

Patrick Mahomes has no limitations -- 7/29

There was nothing Mahomes couldn't do in the Chiefs' first full-squad camp session (h/t Charles Goldman of AtoZSports). The 30-year-old was a full participant, including in 11-on-11 drills, which he notably didn't do during organized team activities (OTAs) or minicamp.

All signs have pointed toward Mahomes being back to full strength, or close to it, come Week 1. Currently ranked as the consensus QB13 in fantasy, expect his stock to rise in due course.

Cyrus Allen is building chemsitry with Patrick Mahomes -- 7/29

Fifth-round rookie wideout Cyrus Allen has gotten work with the first-team offense. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Mahomes has "got some trust" in the Cincinnati product, via Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.

While it's unlikely, there's room for someone to emerge if Kelce continues to regress and Rice is ever forced to miss time. Why can't Allen, who has the speed, explosiveness and route-running ability to be a productive pass-catcher if it all comes together, be the guy?

Chiefs give Patrick Mahomes early breather -- 7/27

Mahomes sat out the final preliminary camp practice for quarterbacks and rookies. It was a scheduled rest day, and he should be back when the rest of the starters participate, according to ESPN's Nate Taylor.

As expected, Mahomes still isn't 100 percent healthy, but he was fully cleared for camp and looks to be in great shape.

Actionable Chiefs fantasy takeaways

Invest in Walker. Kelce is a fine, albeit boring selection at a perennially weak position until proven otherwise. Rice's average draft position (ADP) should steadily rise throughout the summer as he and Mahomes get closer to full strength.
