As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for training camp, all eyes are on star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Will he be ready to start Week 1 against the Denver Broncos or will we see Justin Fields taking the snaps in the season opener?
Former Chiefs backup quarterback and NFL journeyman Chase Daniel recently broke down Mahomes' recent film on The Breakdown, his YouTube channel, and gave us the 411 on the franchise signal-caller. What did Daniel see?
"He looks trimmer. He looks a little bit more explosive, but he's absolutely still babying the left knee...
[The knee is] really ginger," Daniel said while breaking down a few different plays. "He's definitely not a hundred percent. My thing is like watching him through these next couple of days and seeing how sore he gets and if he misses any practices... This is the first time in his career that Mahomes has sort of been doubted, right? And I don't get it because this, this looks good. He's definitely ginger on, on the knee though... His mechanics look good... Mahomes is going to be just fine."

While Daniel did express that Mahomes wasn't 100% just yet, no one is going to be surprised to hear that. Mahomes suffered this injury in December so the fact that he's fully cleared to practice just seven months later is pretty darn miraculous.
Daniel seemed really impressed by how Mahomes looked in these clips, praising him for his mechanics. He didn't seem worried about him and, for a guy who played in the NFL as long as Daniel did and clearly knows what he's talking about, that's such a relief to hear.
Of course, none of this means anything until we all see Mahomes in action for ourselves. Hopefully, that's Week 1 against the Broncos but if the two-time MVP isn't healthy enough to start that game, whenever he's ready to take the field, Chiefs Kingdom will be more than ecstatic to see him taking the snaps.
