Chiefs draft wins over Bills just got funnier after Keon Coleman benching

Kansas City Chiefs fans have very little to feel good about these days, so we'll take some laughs at the expense of the Buffalo Bills.

Let's be honest: There's very little for Chiefs Kingdom to smile about these days, knowing their favorite team is going to be sitting at home for the rest of the winter after playing the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 18. Only three regular-season games remain on the schedule before a long offseason filled with mock drafts and depressing questions.

That's why Kansas City fans have to find joy where they can, and the Bills are providing just a bit of it with the latest roster news coming out before Buffalo plays the Cleveland Browns in Week 16.

Inactive lists are out for the Bills-Browns game, and Buffalo has left wide receiver Keon Coleman on the bench. Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network notes that Coleman is a healthy scratch for the Bills, a "coaching decision" that instead leaves former Chiefs wide receiver/returner Mecole Hardman getting the chance to play in his place.

This is rather amusing on a couple of levels. First, the Chiefs getting the better of the Bills on draft day has been a fun exercise over the last few years.

Of course, the primary start of this whole draft debacle series starts with K.C.'s shrewd trade with Buffalo in the 2017 NFL Draft to draft Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs traded a future first-round pick as well as a third-round choice in order to swap first-round choices in the 2017 draft in order to move up to No. 10. The result was a quarterback who would keep Buffalo's title hopes at bay for the next decade.

There was the trade to get ahead of the Bills for a cornerback in 2022 when general manager Brett Veach moved up to take Trent McDuffie out of Washington at No. 21 overall. The Bills settled for the next corner on their list, Kaiir Elam, who was traded before his rookie deal expired to the Dallas Cowboys earlier this season, only to be released in November. He's currently playing for the Tennessee Titans, who host the Chiefs in Week 16.

Most recently was the draft involving Coleman. The Bills moved down in a trade with the Chiefs in order to secure more draft assets. The Chiefs went with a wide receiver in Xavier Worthy, while Buffalo then took a different wideout in Keon Coleman. Worthy's second season hasn't gone according to play, which mutes any trash talk around this deal, but the Chiefs WR has played through multiple injuries all year. As for Coleman, well, he's on the outside looking in.

What adds salt to that wound, at least, is knowing that Coleman's roster spot is occupied by Hardman, a player who was useful to the Chiefs in previous seasons but who has struggled to find a home in the NFL in the last year. K.C. kept giving him a chance to return on one-year deals as a fringe roster player, but they're a bit overboard in their loyalty in that regard. Other teams like the Jets and Packers have taken a flyer on Hardman only to have him watch from the sidelines.

Now it appears Buffalo is giving Hardman a real shot at meaningful snaps while forcing a former top pick to sit and watch, which speaks volumes about what they think of Coleman. There's very little for Chiefs fans to enjoy at this point, but perhaps another poke at the Bills' misfortunes will tide us over in the meantime.
