It's been a long road back for Hollywood Brown, but perhaps that will make the moment that much sweeter. The Kansas City Chiefs certainly hope so as the offense could use a jolt from a reliable pass catcher at this stage of the season.
According to NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, the Chiefs are going to officially welcome back Hollywood Brown to the active roster after watching him get injured when making his very first catch in the team's preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Following that horribly timed injury, Brown was left on the Chiefs' active roster for a few weeks as they discerned the severity of the clavicle injury. As time went on, however, it became clear that Brown would require surgery to heal properly and the Chiefs placed him on injured reserve.
In recent weeks, the team activated a window for Brown to return, which gave the veteran wide receiver a 21-day window within which he could practice with the rest of his teammates. That would allow the Chiefs to see how he's progressed and whether or not he's ready. Clearly, at this point, the Chiefs believe he's primed for an impact.
Brown was the team's primary offensive import this past offseason in free agency. Together with Xavier Worthy, the team's top draft pick, the Chiefs were hoping to dramatically enhance the vertical nature of the offense after a frustrating season limited by methodical drives marked by short-to-intermediate passing lanes.
Brown's return is not only important for a tired offense set to play big games against the Texans on Saturday and the Steelers on Wednesday, but those appearances should also prime him for the postseason as the Chiefs return to health.
