The Kansas City Chiefs suffered their first loss of the 2026 season, dropping them to 5-1 on the year. It was a tough loss for the Chiefs, who had been riding high with their 5-0 record, but no one really expected this team to go undefeated. Now that the loss is out of the way, hopefully the Chiefs can learn from their mistakes and be a better team because of it.

In the meantime, other former members of the Chiefs organization suited up and played for their current teams. This week, we'll focus on two former Chiefs kickers, one who set a career high and another who struggled. It felt like a good time to focus on some former Chiefs kickers due to the rough game that Harrison Butker had on Sunday night.

We'll also zero in on a former Chiefs receiver, given the drama surrounding the position on Kansas City's current roster. One finally got some playing time after being virtually invisible through the first six weeks of the season. The last player we'll focus on is a former K.C. running back who didn't do much in Kansas City but had a nice showing with his current team in Week 7.

Cairo Santos kicks game-winner, records career-long in win vs. Patriots

Before Butker became the Chiefs' kicker, Cairo Santos had held that role for three full seasons. He bounced around for a bit after the Chiefs moved on from him but eventually found a more permanent home for himself in Chicago with the Bears, where he's been since 2020.

Santos had an interesting night last Thursday against the Patriots. The Bears had a chance to go up 30-21 with a little over six minutes remaining in the game and turned to Santos to make it happen. Santos missed the attempt from 53 yards out.

Fortunately for the Bears, New England failed to capitalize on its next drive, giving Santos a shot at redemption. Chicago had another opportunity to put the game on ice and gave Santos a second chance to do what he couldn't moments before. He nailed the 58-yarder, giving him a new career long and helping his team put the game in the deep freeze.

Spencer Shrader finally misses a kick... and does so twice

Spencer Shrader's stint with the Chiefs was a short one, as he only kicked for them in two games in 2024 when Butker was injured. He was great during that time, though, and has continued to be an excellent kicker. He entered Sunday's game against the Vikings a perfect 18-of-18 on field goal attempts, and the Colts knew that they could rely on him to get the job done when needed.

That was not the case on Sunday, however. With the Colts up 10-6 in the third quarter, Indy's offense put together a drive that spanned 12 plays and 56 yards and chewed up over seven minutes of clock time. That's why it was even more of a gut punch for the Colts when Shrader missed the ensuing 56-yard field goal that would have given Indianapolis a 13-6 lead shortly before the fourth quarter.

The next time Shrader was called upon, the Vikings had taken the lead with a 13-10 advantage over Indy. The Colts kicker stepped up to attempt a 48-yard field goal to tie the game but, once again, missed, with the football sailing wide right. That was six possible points off the board, and the final score ended up being Vikings 16, Colts 10. Oof.

Kickers have bad days, but for a Colts team that is spiraling quickly, Shrader's missed kicks just made things even bleaker.

Hollywood Brown finally gets a chance to play for Eagles

The Chiefs elected not to re-sign Hollywood Brown this offseason, and he decided to sign with the Eagles. We touched on last week how poorly that decision had been going for both sides, with Brown being a non-factor with his new team.

This week, however, thanks to a plethora of injuries the Eagles have stockpiled this year, Brown actually was active for Philly's Monday night matchup against the Cowboys. With Tanner McKee taking the snaps at quarterback, Brown was targeted five times and caught two passes for 30 yards with a long of 19 yards.

Those were the first two passes that Brown caught as a member of the Eagles. With all of the injuries that Philadelphia has, don't be surprised if Brown continues to receive playing time, but he also could be someone who gets thrown around as a trade candidate, too.

Dameon Pierce has nice performance vs. Cowboys

Remember when Dameon Pierce was with the Chiefs? It's okay if you don't, considering he was a healthy scratch most weeks during the putrid 2025 season.

Pierce joined the Eagles this offseason and received significant playing time for them on Monday night against the Cowboys. He carried the rock 14 times for 47 yards and scored a touchdown. He also scored a touchdown last week against the Panthers, proving that he's able to find his way to the end zone.

Chiefs fans might be a little more annoyed by Pierce's performance this season if Kenneth Walker wasn't doing what he's doing and Emmett Johnson wasn't showing potential. But it's never fun to see a guy who was ignored with your favorite team go on to play well elsewhere.
