In an alternate universe, it could have been an exciting broadcast call on a touchdown play for the Kansas City Chiefs. In this dimension, it was the D.C. Defenders of the UFL who benefitted from the presence of two former Chiefs who connected for a very unlikely touchdown in a recent game against the St. Louis Battlehawks.
While the Battlehawks would ultimately lose their Week 3 battle against the Defenders, former K.C. quarterback Jordan Ta'amu and wide receiver Cornell Powell connected for a touchdown on the most exciting highlight of the game.
Good to see former Chiefs still making waves in the UFL.
In case you missed it, which is likely most of us since it's the UFL, Ta'amu was trying to extend the Defenders' lead over the Battlehawks on a third-and-goal play. Ta'amu tried to go over the middle for a quick touchdown pass but St. Louis safety Qwynnterrio Cole, a product of Louisville, tipped the ball away.
Somehow Powell came away with a heads-up play and caught the ball of Cole's deflection.
HOW!?

Powell has 5 catches for 44 yards and 1 touchdown so far this season in the UFL.
Chiefs fans will recognize Powell as a former fifth-round pick out of Clemson in the 2021 NFL Draft. Powell was a late-bloomer with the Tigers at the collegiate level, and K.C. exhibited plenty of patience by keeping Powell around while hoping for a similar ascent in the pros.
Powell would largely remain on the practice squad for the majority of his rookie deal, with only three appearances in the regular season for the Chiefs in 2022. Ultimately, general manager Brett Veach decided to move on from Powell and released him last November.
As for Ta'amu, he was a developmental quarterback brought in by the Chiefs back in 2020 (during the COVID-affected season), and he's bounced around for several NFL teams and football leagues ever since. Other teams offering him a chance in the NFL include the Lions, Panthers, and Vikings.
