Instead of worrying about the Denver Broncos or Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC West race, however, it's the Las Vegas Raiders who are also 2-0 and tied with the Chiefs in first.
On Sunday afternoon, the Chiefs take to the road for the first time in '26 with a visit to Miami. The Dolphins are in the opposite position, at 0-2 overall and last place in the AFC East. This was their expected position, which means, on paper, this game might be the most lopsided opponent on the Chiefs' schedule. Biggest Chiefs storylines heading into Week 3
Who will play left tackle?
The Chiefs have gone with Kahlil Benson at left tackle since the start of the season, in the wake of Josh Simmons' absence due to a lingering back injury that first surfaced at the end of training camp. Benson, a rookie free agent out of Indiana, never even played the position in college, but he's held things down for K.C. admirably even as the offense has being extra-friendly to tackle play. Will Simmons be ready? Will it be Benson again? The lack of an intimidating opponent in Week 3 might provide the answer, even as Reid says Simmons is on his way back.
is this a potential trap game for the Chiefs?
Since we're on the subject of competition, the Chiefs are already 2-0 after wins over the defending AFC West champs (the Denver Broncos) and the Indianapolis Colts. Both teams were considered the tougher opponents in an otherwise easy first month that features the Dolphins this week and the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 4 before a Week 5 bye. The Dolphins aren't as talented on paper, but the phrase "any given Sunday" exists for a reason. The Chiefs need to keep their focus week to week and now allow any unexpected teams to trip them up.
Will Mansoor Delane be ready?
The level of competition here might be a factor for the return (or not) of rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane in the same way we discussed for Josh Simmons. Delane, the team's initial first-round pick at No. 6 overall, has been nursing a shoulder concern from Week 1 after landing awkwardly on on interception return. He was active and even healthy for Week 2, but the Chiefs kept him on the bench against Indy. If K.C. gets up early in Week 3, Chiefs fans might be waiting another game to see Delane.
