The Kansas City Chiefs have nothing to play for in their final game of the 2024 regular season but that doesn't mean that Chiefs fans still won't tune in to watch their favorite team play. After all, some fans might be intrigued to see how Carson Wentz looks at quarterback, plus it'd be pretty funny if Wentz and the rest of the Chiefs backups managed to upset the Denver Broncos and ruin their chances of getting into the playoffs.
The Broncos fell to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17, meaning that the Bengals still have a slim chance of getting into the postseason. Denver would have to lose, as would the Dolphins while the Bengals would have to beat the Steelers to make it into the dance. The Broncos are nine-point favorites over K.C. as of this writing and with them being in a win-and-in scenario, don't expect them to pull any punches here.
That being said, it's the NFL and crazier things have happened. For those interested in watching the Chiefs backups take on the Denver Broncos, there's finally a time scheduled for the game!
Chiefs-Broncos kicks off at 3:25 p.m. CST on Sunday, January 5th
The Chiefs are in the late window on Sunday, which has four other games going on in the same time frame. The Saturday slate of games is the two AFC North match-ups so we'll know who wins that division by the time Sunday rolls around and if the Bengals are still mathematically alive for the postseason.
It feels a little unfair that the Chargers can rest their starters based on the outcome of the AFC North games, as if the Steelers win, they'd be the five-seed. If not, the Chargers could play their starters to increase their chances of winning, and then be the five-seed and get to play the lowly Houston Texans in the wild card round.
For Chiefs fans, while nothing's at stake for them this weekend, it will be fun watching the rest of the NFL action unfold. The regular season concludes with the Lions and Vikings battling it out on Sunday Night Football to see who will win the number one seed in the NFC playoffs.
