Chiefs roster crunch could send Kader Kohou right back to Dolphins

The Kansas City Chiefs made it a priority to revamp their secondary this offseason. One of the names they added to the mix was Kader Kohou, who had spent the first chunk of his career with the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins didn't want to pay Kohou the money he wanted so he departed for Kansas City this offseason. Well, fortunately for Kohou, if he's unable to land a spot on the Chiefs' 53-man roster, he might not have to wait long before a team scoops him up. And that team could very well be the same one he spent time with before coming to K.C.

Brian Miller of Phin Phanatic wrote about Kohou's situation in Kansas City and said that, due to the Chiefs' "roster crunch", Kohou could be back on the market in no time. He believes that if that ends up being the case, the Dolphins shouldn't hesitate to bring him back to South Beach.

"The Chiefs are suddenly stacked in the secondary, and that could point Kohou towards the exit. The Chiefs would be making a mistake, one that the Dolphins should watch closely," Miller wrote. "In Kansas City, Kohou took first-team reps during OTAs and mini-camps, but the Chiefs now find themselves with a lot more talent than they had in March. After drafting Mansoor Delane and Jadon Canady, the Chiefs brought back L'Jarius Snead as well."

Kader Kohou might draw immediate interest if Chiefs release him

Despite being new to Kansas City, Kohou is not a lock to make the roster. It’s nothing new for Brett Veach to sign a veteran on the cheap ahead of the draft as a contingency plan, and this could be another example of that. Kohou was the insurance policy for K.C. after Trent McDuffie was traded but that doesn't mean that after the other moves the team made, he'll still fill that role.

There are plenty of factors working against the former Dolphin as he hopes to stick around in Kansas City. For one, he's working his way back from an injury and that alone could determine his future in the red and gold. Secondly, as Miller aluded to, the Chiefs added other cornerback pieces in the form of Jadon Canady and L'Jarius Sneed, to name a few.

In other words, Kader Kohou will have his work cut out for him. The good news for Kohou, however, is that if things don't work out for him in the City of Fountains, his old team sounds more than happy to have him back.
