The NFL preseason often presents an interesting carousel of activity for those who follow the transaction wire fairly closely. As one team makes a move to cover a roster shortcoming or new injury, players are signed, and others are released, only to see those same players who were recently shown the door walking through another one. The hope for each player is that they have a place to land when the ride stops spinning.
Anthony Dunn has a new home after being cut loose by the Kansas City Chiefs. With just one preseason game to go, the defensive end/linebacker from Toledo has a short amount of time to try to ingratiate himself with an entirely new coaching staff.
The Jets signed Dunn on Sunday after the Chiefs released him when making room for linebacker Cam Jones. Fortunately for Dunn, he only had to wait a couple of days before a new team came calling with an offer.
The Chiefs went with Jones after suffering some injuries in the linebacking corps, specifically as a response to losing Jack Cochrane to a right knee injury. Jones was a very familiar face for the Chiefs to call on who served as a core-four special teams performer for the 2023 and 2024 seasons before, interestingly, leaving to play for the Jets in '25.
Dunn played two seasons at Florida A&M before transferring to Toledo for his final two seasons. He put up 10 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, and 1 forced fumble for the Rockets. After he was bypassed in the draft, Dunn landed a contract from the Chiefs to compete with other edge prospects before he was finally shown the door after the team's preseason opener against the L.A. Rams.
With the Jets, Dunn replaces Nate Voorhis, who was released after signing as a rookie free-agent defensive end out of Ball State. Dunn was one of three signings for the Jets with just one week remaining before active roster cuts.
