While they didn't sign either player, the Kansas City Chiefs worked out two free agent offensive tackles this week, giving them at least a couple of names to keep in mind if injuries persist at the position.

Wednesday's NFL transaction wire showed the Chiefs working out three players: linebacker Cam Jones, who was signed to a deal following the visit, and tackles Kellen Diesch and John Campbell.

The Chiefs are dealing with a considerable number of injuries up front with two games in a six-day stretch coming up to round out the preseason slate. On Saturday (August 22), they visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before returning home on Friday (August 28) to host the Seattle Seahawks. In the days leading up to the Florida road trip, the Chiefs are missing multiple offensive linemen in training camp.

Left tackle Josh Simmons (back) sat out of his second consecutive practice on Wednesday as the Chiefs near the end of their time in St. Joseph. In addition, backup tackle Matt Waletzko's knee injury has kept him out of multiple practices as well. On Tuesday, fellow tackle Chu Godrick was also among those not practicing. Not all of the OL's injuries are affecting the Chiefs' tackle depth. Guard Trey Smith also continues to miss time due to a hip injury that already kept him out of the first preseason practice.

Back to the tackles who tried out for the Chiefs. Diesch is likely to be the most familiar of the two, but even that's a real stretch. A former undrafted free agent signing with the Miami Dolphins in 2022, Diesch has also spent time with the Bears, Steelers, Titans, Browns, and Patriots before kicking around with four UFL teams as well. The journeyman tackle has never once played an NFL snap in all that time.

Campbell's NFL journey is starting the same way. After going unselected out of Tennessee in 2025, he earned tryouts in rookie minicamp with both the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers. From there, he turned to the UFL this past spring to play for the Louisville Kings. Played seven seasons in college, including five at Miami, before transferring to suit up for the Vols.
