Some stories are often lost in the shuffle of the NFL's week-to-week media blitz, so our latest Kansas City Chiefs news round-up gives us a chance to make sure we didn't miss anything. As the Chiefs prepare for a visit from the New York Jets in Week 9, with real hopes of turning around a two-game losing skid, we turn our attention to some smaller moves, honors, and award notices you might have overlooked.

Kader Kohou finds a new home

The Chiefs decided to part ways with veteran cornerback Kader Kohou earlier this week. His release from the practice squad opened up a spot for one of nine new players who tried out for the team on Wednesday. Wide receiver Jacob de Jesus won that role.

As for Kohou, he quickly found a new home with the Buffalo Bills, which keeps him in the chase for AFC glory. Kohou will stay on the Bills' taxi squad hoping for a chance to eventually make the active roster.

Kohou originally signed with K.C. on a one-year deal in free agency to compete for slot corner reps. However, he was slowly and steadily made more expendable by subsequent additions to the roster, including the drafting of Jadon Canady out of Oregon in the fourth round of the 2026 draft and the reunion with L'Jarius Sneed in June. Chris Roland-Wallace's emergence as a trusted presence inside also sealed the deal.

Emmett Johnson's reward for a breakout performance

The most impressive player on the field for either team in Sunday's matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos was rookie running back Emmett Johnson. So it's no surprise to see him honored as the Pepsi Rookie of the Week for Week 8.

Johnson only had a single rush for 15 yards against Denver, but his performance in the passing attack was sensational, with 5 catches for 128 yards. That included a 73-yard touchdown reception that had Arrowhead at full volume.

Johnson also added a team-high 44-yard kickoff return to help flip the field for the Chiefs the final minutes of the game. While the comeback attempt was unsuccessful, Johnson was no less a hero for his electric performance on the afternoon.

Johnson is currently fourth among all NFL rookies in yards from scrimmage with 314, behind Tennessee Titans receiver Carnell Tate (413) and Cleveland Browns wideouts Denzel Boston (409) and KC Concepcion (386).

Kendall Gammon nominated for NFL's Salute to Service Award

Former Chiefs long snapper Kendall Gammon is Kansas City's nominee for this year's the league's Salute to Service Award, which recognizes players (or former players) for their commitment to supporting military veterans and their families.

Gammon, who spent seven seasons with the Chiefs from 2000-06, has remained active in K.C. and beyond through his considerable work with War Horses for Veterans, his visits to Whiteman Air Force Base, and his support for the National WWI Museum and Memorial. He's also partnered with the Chiefs to honor local veterans with personalized game balls.

Chiefs Kingdom can read more about the award, meet the nominees from each franchise, and vote for Gammon here.
