The Kansas City Chiefs are walking with a noticeable limp these days.

The franchise has been mired in off-the-field talking points over the last two weeks more than anything else. Questions about the long-term status of left tackle Josh Simmons, the odd signing of kicker Justin Tucker, and the benching of left guard Kingsley Suamataia have crowded out the discussion of the actual on-field product. Which, to be fair, hasn't been all that exciting in the last two weeks.

Fresh off of consecutive losses to the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos, the Chiefs host the New York Jets on Sunday in a rare early afternoon affair. It's a ho-hum week on the Chiefs' schedule with the 2-6 Jets in town. Could this be a trap game? What's at stake for K.C.? We've got everything you need to know, to prep for the game, from the latest injury reports to predictions to the biggest storylines.

Biggest Chiefs storylines heading into Week 9

Can the Chiefs halt their losing streak?

More important than any personnel matter or coaching decision is the simple fact that the Chiefs need a win. Two weeks ago, they were one of the NFL's few unbeaten teams. Instead of chasing visions of a No. 1 seed, however, the Chiefs are hoping to slow the descent back to the middle of the pack against a lesser-talented roster after two tough road losses. The Jets have fought some teams tough even while losing six of their last seven games. Can the Chiefs regain some swagger at home?

Will Harrison Butker somehow hold onto his job?

Despite the presence of Justin Tucker on K.C.'s practice squad, Andy Reid gave a thumbs-up to the idea that Butker would remain the team's kicker for Week 9 even after missing another field goal in a three-point loss to the Denver Broncos last Sunday. After feeling the public relations heat from signing Tucker the week before, it felt like Butker was out of chances. Perhaps that will turn out to be the case if other issues arise versus the Jets.

Will Andy Reid let Kingsley Suamataia back in his good graces?

Kingsley Suamataia is the incumbent starting left guard for the Chiefs' first-team offense, but you wouldn't know he had a stranglehold on the role given the fact that he's been benched in both Week 4 and Week 8. In both road games, the BYU product was a last-second switch for Mike Caliendo, who has a clearly lower ceiling playing in front of Patrick Mahomes. While Caliendo looked okay against the Raiders in Week 4, things went south against Denver last Sunday, which felt irresponsible on the part of Reid to put Mahomes in such a precarious position. Fans will be anxious to see Suamataia back out there in Week 9.
