As Kansas City Chiefs fans waited for the offseason action to ramp up, one name they kept hoping to hear linked to the Chiefs was Cameron Jordan. The idea made sense, as Jordan was coming off a season in which he had 10.5 sacks, and the Chiefs' pass rush definitely could use someone with that type of potential, even if that player happens to be 37 years old.
Well, Jordan ended up re-signing with the New Orleans Saints, where he's spent the entirety of his decorated career. At first, the move felt like a gut punch for Chiefs fans considering the state of their pass rush but, now, on further review, perhaps Jordan did Kansas City a favor by returning to his old stomping grounds.
Unfortunately for Jordan and the Saints, he suffered a hamstring injury and could very well miss the beginning of the 2026 regular season. Saints head coach Kellen Moore discussed the injury while speaking to the media.
"It could possibly get into the season, but you never know," Moore said. "[You need] to have some patience with it, let it take its course and we'll collect more information as we go."
Chiefs fans may be glad Cameron Jordan never joined Kansas City
The Chiefs likely felt confident targeting Jordan because of his durability. Before this injury, the long-time Saints defensive end missed just one game due to injury. The other time he missed a game was due to testing positive for COVID-19 when the league was still in COVID protocols. Otherwise, Jordan has been one of the most available in the league.
Had this hamstring injury happened with the Chiefs, fans would have been rolling their eyes and saying, "Of course". This team has been no stranger to injuries in recent years, and those injuries finally caught up to them a season ago, with the Chiefs winning just six games and missing the playoffs for the first time in 12 years.
The injuries have continued through the summer, unfortunately, as both Omarr Norman-Lott and Ashton Gillotte have been dealing with injuries. The team added Peter Woods and R Mason Thomas in the draft but Jordan really could have given the position a boost. That said, it sounds like even if Jordan had picked the Chiefs, he'd have been a part of the injury bug revolution in Kansas City.
Hopefully, Jordan heals up for the Saints and the Chiefs' pass rush outperforms their expectations.
