Cam Jordan flirted with the idea of leaving the one franchise he's ever played for. But in the end, the Kansas City Chiefs are left wanting, as Jordan is giving it another year with the New Orleans Saints.
NFL reporter Ian Rapoport has word that Jordan is all-in on a 16th season in the BIg Easy with a new one-year deal loaded with incentives that will keep the team legend from suiting up for anyone else—at least for 2026.
The move ends weeks of speculation that had the Chiefs at the center of the conversation. Chris Jones set the tone early in free agency when he tried his best to recruit Jordan to K.C. on social media. Jordan seemed to follow suit by hyping Travis Kelce's return just days ago. Between the Chiefs' need for help on the edge and the player engagement online, the smoke suggested that a potential signing was real.
The Chiefs are left waiting at the altar after Jordan decided to go back to New Orleans for a 16th season.
Jordan's market as a free agent was shaped by the tension of such strong production in 2025 and his advancing age. His 10.5 sacks last season at 36 years old proved that he's just as powerful as ever and has learned how to use his length to his advantage. But the double-digit sack season followed a two-sack campaign that suggested a lessening impact after so many years in the league.
There was also tension to be found in Jordan's potential exit on the New Orleans' side, as one of the franchise's all-time greats and future Hall of Famer was looking at leaving for the first time since he was drafted in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. The Saints had already allowed defensive captain Demario Davis to leave in free agency on a two-year deal to the New York Jets, so it felt like anything was possible when it came to Jordan's future.
For the Chiefs, the lack of a proven veteran opposite George Karlaftis is even more glaring with Jordan off the free agent shelves. The pickings are slim and yet the Chiefs just have green prospects or frustrating draft busts to work with. R Mason Thomas was this year's second-round selection and Ashton Gillotte is back for a second year. Felix Anudike-Uzomah missed all of last season due to a hamstring injury and was already a letdown of a former first-round pick.
As for Jordan, he enters the 2026 season sitting at No. 22 on the NFL's all-time sack leader list with 132. With just two more sacks, he'll leap into the top 20 over the likes of Leslie O'Neal, Carl Eller, and John Abraham. The eight-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro is already a Hall of Fame lock. Now it's just a matter of how high he will climb.
