Through the first two rounds, the Kansas City Chiefs went all-in on the defensive side with their trio of picks in the top 40 of the 2026 NFL Draft. Now, with his fourth selection, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach continues to add to the tremendous bounty of talent he's already added.
With the No. 109th pick overall, the Chiefs have taken Jadon Canady, a defensive back out of Oregon, in the fourth round.
Canady, who stands 5-10, 180 lbs., is a well-traveled prospect who transferred from Tulane to Ole Miss to Oregon in his five-year collegiate career. He's a versatile prospect who should give the Chiefs added dimensions to sub packages and could even start over Kader Kohou as a slot corner, depending on how preseason competition plays out.
Last season, Canady earned a strong 84.7 overall grade from Pro Football Focus with an even higher coverage mark (87.0), which placed him among the leaders in that category. His adaptabiltiy gives him a chance to potentially play free safety as well as slot corner, and opposing quarterbacks had a 48.1 passer rating when targeting him in 2025.
Chiefs fans were forced to wait on Day 2 while approximately 60 talented players slipped off the draft board. It was the consequence of having lost the Chiefs' third-round pick in the move up to secure LSU cornerback Mansoor Dalen at No. 6 overall. Fortunately, several good players remained at the top of the fourth round and the Chiefs liked Canady enough to take him.
As for the earlier defensive emphasis, Veach first secured some much-needed help in the secondary with the acquisition of Delane, which gives them a new anchor in the secondary. From there, Veach jumped to the defensive front and addressed the adaptability and athleticism in the trenches with the selection of Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods at No. 29 overall and then Oklahoma edge rusher R Mason Thomas in the second round.
Here's a look at the remaining picks that the Chiefs are scheduled to make on Saturday:
- Round 5, No. 169 overall
- Round 5, No. 176 overall
- Round 6, No. 210 overall
