The Kansas City Chiefs have a strong NFL Draft history with standout performers from the Senior Bowl. It's always heartening to see someone with some local or regional connections make their way onto the team. Perhaps a player who sits at that intersection will find his way onto the roster as a part of the 2026 rookie class.
Kevin Coleman traversed back and forth across the country during his four-year college career—with four different stops along the way—but he finished up a strong senior campaign for the Missouri Tigers. Those efforts, as well as a strong pre-draft season, have given him some momentum with the 2026 NFL Draft only weeks away.
Missouri just held its pro day, and all 32 NFL teams had representatives in attendance. NFL reporter Aaron Wilson had Coleman's time in the 40-yard dash at 4.38 seconds, which is an improvement upon the 4.49-second time from the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Wilson also reported that a visit with the Chiefs is in line with Coleman.
The many stops of Kevin Coleman
Coleman started his college career in the FCS by eschewing multiple Power-5 conference offers for a chance to play alongside Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter at Jackson State for head coach Deion Sanders. When Sanders left, Coleman jumped from Louisville in 2023 and Mississippi State in '24 before settling at Missouri last season. He finished with 732 yards on 66 catches and 1 touchdown a year ago.
For the Chiefs, Coleman could be a name to watch as a day three addition to the wide receiver corps that lost a few names in free agency. He's a 5-10, 180 lb. target who has lined up mostly in the slot—although he earned reps outside as well at Mississippi State. While the lack of continuity might have limited his growth in some ways, he's also proved himself to be a quick learner by earning starting roles at each stop along the path.
Looking at Coleman with the Chiefs
Coleman's experience on special teams as a punt returner is important because he'll have to provide value there to find himself making the final roster for a team like the Chiefs. But his speed, hands, and versatility all work in his favor toward achieving such a dream. K.C. has invited Nikko Remigio back for another season, but he shouldn't feel safe despite being the incumbent returner.
Hollywood Brown has already signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent as well. Rashee Rice is now in his contract year. There's plenty of room for a rookie (or even two) to step in and provide short- and long-term value at the position. The Chiefs seem guaranteed to take a receiver before Coleman's draft tier comes into view, but no one should be surprised if they land two wideouts in the overall class.
