Chiefs fans won't like who Derwin James might be recruiting to the AFC West

No thank you.

It's annoying enough that the Los Angeles Chargers have found their footing and are winning again, but now it looks like they might be headed in the right direction. Considering how much the Kansas City Chiefs have dominated the AFC West in recent years, Chiefs fans would rather the three other teams in the division continue to remain irrelevant.

Sadly, that's not the case right now and Chargers fans are speculating that Derwin James is trying his best to ensure the second-most-talked-about NFL team in Los Angeles gets a lethal weapon this offseason. One user on X posted a picture of James and Tee Higgins swapping jerseys following LA's seven-point win over the Cincinnati Bengals and wrote "I see what you're doing Derwin" implying that the Chargers safety could be trying to recruit Higgins to play in Los Angeles next year.

Tee Higgins joining the AFC West is not something Chiefs fans want to see happen

With the Bengals likely letting Higgins walk this offseason due to already paying Joe Burrow and still needing to pay Ja'Marr Chase, the former second-round pick will be set to hit free agency for the first time in his career. He's tallied two 1,000+ yard seasons with both of those coming in the years the Bengals faced the Chiefs in the postseason.

While Higgins hasn't put together a big game against K.C. in the regular season, he's been dynamite against them in the playoffs. In the first AFC Championship Game match-up between the Chiefs and the Bengals, Higgins went off with six catches for 103 yards while averaging 17 yards per catch. In the second AFC title match-up between these two teams, Higgins grabbed six passes for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Needless to say, Chiefs fans wouldn't enjoy having Higgins join the AFC West. That being said, the Chargers could make a lot of sense for him. They'll have money to spend in the offseason and could be looked at as an attractive destination now that the team is winning and has Jim Harbaugh as its head coach.

The Chiefs and Bengals rivalry began at the end of the 2021 season when the Bengals ended K.C.'s season by ousting them in the AFC title game. They won both match-ups that year and then won again in the 2022 regular season, which is when the "Burrowhead" stuff started surfacing ahead of the next AFC Championship meeting between the two teams. K.C. won that game and hasn't lost to Cincinnati since then.

That being said, if the Chargers bring Higgins to Los Angeles and the Chiefs have to face him twice a year every year, that's not going to help repair the relationship between the wide receiver and Kansas City. Let's hope he stays away from the AFC West when making his free-agent decision this spring.
