The Kansas City Chiefs finally got on the board on the second day of the three-day 2025 NFL Draft with their selection of Omarr Norman-Lott.
Norman-Lott, an interior defensive lineman from Tennessee, was taken at No. 63 overall at the bottom of the second round.
Norman-Lott comes to the NFL with five seasons of collegiate experience from two schools as a transfer from ASU to Tennessee. He made waves last season as a rotational disruptor inside. He had 9.5 sacks over the last two seasons for the Vols.
For the first time since 2019, KC uses a premium pick on a defensive tackle—and it’s a bet on raw disruption.
Pro Football Focus loved him and had him at No. 34 on their overall draft board: "Norman-Lott's production doesn't particularly jump off the stat sheet, but his efficiency and athletic traits stand out. On just 74 true pass-rush snaps in 2024, he posted an 87.0 pass-rush grade."
The Chiefs haven't made a significant investment via the draft along the offensive interior in quite some time. While they've relied on the dominance of Chris Jones, they've often paired him with street free agents like Mike Pennel and undrafted gems like Turk Wharton.
On occasion, the Chiefs have thrown darts late in the draft on the likes of Keondre Coburn, but the Chiefs haven't taken a swing at the defensive interior in the first three rounds of a draft since taking Khalen Saunders in the third back in 2019.
The Chiefs already grabbed a long-term option at offensive tackle in the first round with the selection of Ohio State lineman Josh Simmons. The team also picked up a fifth-round pick from the Philadelphia Eagles (No. 164 overall) with a short trade back from No. 31 to 32. Clearly the theme is building in the trenches.
Brett Veach still has six draft selections ahead of him in the rest of the 2025 NFL Draft.
