The Kansas City Chiefs have used this offseason to revamp their roster after missing the postseason for the first time since 2014. A ton of moves came on the defensive side of the ball, but they may not be done just yet. And a reunion could be on the horizon.
On Thursday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that cornerback L’Jarius Sneed is going to visit the Chiefs. This comes just two years after Kansas City traded Sneed to the Tennessee Titans. Nonetheless, the two sides have an interest in reuniting with training camp starting in July.
Chiefs have L’Jarius Sneed coming in for a visit
The Chiefs' cornerback room has been completely shifted, as Trent McDuffie was traded to the Los Angeles Rams before Jaylen Watson joined them in free agency. The Chiefs decided to move up to No. 6 in the 2026 NFL draft and nabbed Mansoor Delane.
He will lock down one spot, and many assumed that Nohl Williams would take over on the other boundary spot. That could very well still happen, but the idea of Sneed returning is interesting. During his four years with the Chiefs, he was a player that defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo leaned on.
Sneed was able to play both in the slot and outside at a high level. Over 57 games in Kansas City, he had 303 total tackles, 40 pass deflections, four forced fumbles, and 10 interceptions. In three of his four seasons with the Chiefs, he finished with a 71.2 or higher coverage grade on Pro Football Focus.
His production took a dip when he went to the Titans, where he dealt with a knee and a lingering quadriceps injury. He was limited to just 12 games in two seasons, which is why they decided to move on this offseason. Sneed's versatility is very appealing, and he would be returning to a scheme in which he had plenty of success.
Kansas City revealed they are having an open competition at the nickel spot. That seems to be a battle between Kader Kohou and rookie Jadon Canady. That could still be the case, but if they decide to sign Sneed, it would give them another inside/out piece in the cornerback room.
This signing would make sense on both sides. For a Chiefs team that had significant turnover at that position, bringing back a veteran who knows the system would benefit the players and coaches. It would also give them a quality depth piece and allow Sneed to bounce back in the place where he's had his most NFL success, including two Super Bowl titles. With nothing set in stone, this is something fans should keep an eye on.
