Brett Veach called out for failure behind Chiefs’ regression

Hey, it's hard to build a championship team every year.

The 2025 season will go down in the history books as a massive disappointment for the Kansas City Chiefs. After reaching the Super Bowl three years in a row, Kansas City failed to even qualify for the postseason and recorded its first losing record since 2012.

So, yes, 2025 was a historic failure for the Kansas City Chiefs. It also showed the NFL world that the Chiefs are capable of missing out on the playoffs and now analysts and writers everywhere are taking that ammo and running with it this offseason.

We've already seen former NFL executive Mike Tannenbaum predict K.C. to miss the playoffs again but now Ben Solak of ESPN is also throwing his hat into that ring. Solak made 10 predictions for the upcoming NFL season and had the Chiefs not reaching the postseason on his list.

At this point, predicting the Chiefs to not qualify for the playoffs isn't really all that shocking even with what they've done in the years prior. It's what these people are saying and why they think Kansas City will miss out that we want to know.

Solak pointed his finger at Brett Veach's failure to keep the roster success going.

"Jawaan Taylor was supposed to be a cornerstone at right tackle. Safety Chamarri Conner was supposed to be another Spagnuolo success story. Felix Anudike-Uzomah would bring much-needed juice on the edge. Wide receiver Hollywood Brown would alleviate the lost effect of Tyreek Hill. Contenders with pricey rosters must be constantly innovating in scheme and finding low-salaried contributors in both the draft and free agency. General manager Brett Veach failed to do his part, while coach Andy Reid's offense grew stale."

Chiefs’ 2025 collapse exposes flaw in Brett Veach approach

The key part of Solak's blurb there is "Brett Veach failed to do his part" and, while Chiefs fans will likely jump to Veach's defense given what he had put together in previous years, Solak isn't necessarily wrong there. The moves he listed didn't pan out and despite K.C. reaching the Super Bowl in the 2024 season, the team fell off a cliff as a result of these failed moves in 2025.

It's hard to be too angry at Veach considering the job he had done before the disastrous 2025 season. This is the guy largely responsible for drafting Patrick Mahomes and also landing key draft picks such as Creed Humphrey and Trent McDuffie and signing talents in free agengy like Tyrann Mathieu and Joe Thuney. All of those guys helped pave the way to at least one of the Chiefs' three Super Bowl wins under Veach.

It's easy to point the finger at Veach for the Chiefs' failures in 2025 but, again, without Veach at the helm for the past decade, this team isn't a dynasty. We'll take the one bad year for the three Super Bowl victories any day of the week.
